All this time...

I spoke in tongues and with words I trusted you heard, understood,
and would hold as gently as the palms you kissed good night.

I laughed, unabashedly and uninhibited,
certain that the smile which met your lips had been put there by my own.

I stood firm, amidst shifting sands,
certain that your hands would pull me out.

And now, I find myself sitting at the edge of the bed,
a silhouette framed by dying light,
trying to find my feet on the floor below.

Wondering if how and why,
could have been forecasted with shoulds and woulds,
If fear and lies crowded the bed,
rendering love made all but a fleeting moment...

feeling...

instance...

all this time.

Unfinished

In the still and quiet, I find you -
the pause between fast words and slow thoughts.
The delicate stretch of limbs
and contented sigh before sleep.

In scents that move like fingers across my face
tracing the curve of my neck,
the arch of my spine.
In breath that rises and falls in rhythm to your pulse,
deep and steady,
shallow and frantic.

In hands that kiss and consume,
skin beneath singing your name.

A Prayer for You

There will come a time when the worries of your mind
and the heaviness of your heart
will subside.

When the loudest sound will be your own breath,
slow...soft...deep...
When touch will embrace you wholly
and love consume you.
